Obituary of Arvil Ray Tilson

Mr. Arvil Ray Tilson, age 75 of Wartburg, passed away Monday January 21, 2019 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He attended Liberty Baptist Church. Mr. Tilson, as he was affectionately known for many years, was a teacher and principal in the Morgan County School System for more than thirty-two years. He was an avid sports enthusiast being a life-long Tennessee Volunteer and Atlanta Braves fan. In his younger years he would play or coach different types of sports with students and friends. At an early age he developed a love for country music which grew into an extensive collection over the years. Ray was a talented songwriter and was fortunate to have several of his songs recorded.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Arvil and Hester Tilson.

His parents-in-law: Albert and Stella Bertram.

One brother: Paul Tilson.

Two sisters: Faye Jones and Wanda Emrhein.

One great grandson: Caydon Huseman.

And a sister-in-law: Cloeva Jones.

He leaves behind those dearest to his heart, his wife of thirty-eight years: Janette Tilson.

His daughter and son-in-law: Rhonda and Wendell Laughter.

His son: Tony Stewart.

Five grandchildren: Madison Laughter, Anthony and wife Raven Stewart, Zachary Stewart, Kelsea and husband Brandon Huseman, and Kristin Stewart.

Three great grandsons: Braydon and Aydon Huseman, and Amadeus Stewart.

One brother and sister-in-law: Don and Patty Tilson.

Two sisters and brothers-in-law: Betty and Will Hobbs, and Lois and Tommy Sexton.

Three brothers-in-law: Junior Bertram, Charles and wife Lois Bertram, and Wendell and wife Connie Bertram.

Along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday January 26, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM with Dr. Paul Frick and Bro. Vic Davis officiating. A graveside service will follow in Morgan Memorial Gardens.
